How Is Breast Augmentation Surgery Performed?

Breast enlargement surgery involves inserting a breast implant and making a single incision in three locations: the fold under your breast, under your arm, and around your nipple. Your breast tissue will be separated from your chest muscles and connective tissue by your doctor. This creates a pocket behind or in front of the chest wall’s outermost muscle. The implant will be placed in this pocket and centered behind your nipple by your surgeon.

In breast enlargement surgery, there are two types of implants. Saline implants are placed empty and then filled with sterile saline. Silicone gel is pre-filled into silicone implants.

Your doctor will close the surgical site once the implant is in place. After your breast augmentation surgery, you may experience tightness or muscle aches in the surgical area.

How long does it take to recover from breast enlargement surgery?

Breast enlargement surgery recovery can take 6 to 8 weeks. However, because everyone is unique, recovery can differ from person to person. Because everyone is different, discussing your concerns about the recovery process with our assistants and doctors is best. You will be less painful and sleepy for several hours after surgery. Your doctor will wrap your breasts with a bra or an elastic band before you leave the hospital. This band will provide support for your breasts while they heal. Your surgeon will also go over how to care for the incision sites in great detail. Although your doctor will prescribe pain medication, you may feel the most discomfort in the first 3 to 5 days. However, if you are concerned about any bleeding, you should consult with your surgeon. You can manage pain with over-the-counter pain relievers one week after surgery. After the first week, the pain will be minimal. You can gradually resume daily activities once your surgeon gives his or her approval. For the next few weeks, you may experience some pain and swelling. It should, however, gradually improve. If you work in a physically demanding job, you should take three weeks off or more. You should also avoid intense exercise such as running and heavy lifting. You should be close to full recovery after about two months. Your doctor will advise you when you can resume your normal activities.

What are my implant options?

There are 2 types of implants: silicone or saline. Silicone implants are the most commonly used type. They are less likely to wrinkle and feel more natural. A saline implant is a silicone sac filled with varying amounts of sterile saline, known as normal saline. This can affect the shape, firmness and feel of the breast. If the implant sac leaks, the saline implant will collapse and the saline will be absorbed by the body and excreted naturally. You should discuss the pros and cons of each type of breast implant with your doctor, the size and shape of your implants and where they will be placed (behind the breast or the chest muscle).

How long do breast implants last?

Breast implants are not a permanent operation. They will probably need to be replaced at some point. Plan to replace the implants every 10 years.
