    Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)

What Is a Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)?

Eyelid surgery, commonly known as blepharoplasty, is a type of facial cosmetic surgery that removes excess skin around the eyes. The skin around our eyes is thinner and more delicate than the skin on the rest of our faces. As a result, it is more prone to wrinkles and the development of eye bags.

As a result, wrinkles around the eyes, sagging upper eyelids, drooping lower eyelids, bags, or dark circles under the eyes can be caused by aging, smoking, stress, and inconsistent sleep. These symptoms, which result in a sleepy, restless, and aged appearance, necessitate eyelid aesthetics. Eyelid surgery is used for both aesthetic and medical reasons when the eyelids sag to the point that vision is obstructed.

You can get in touch with our expert medical staff at Esvita Clinic and request an online consultation if you wish to undergo blepharoplasty in Turkey.

What Is the Purpose of Eyelid Surgery?

It is possible to develop wrinkles around the eyes, drooping upper or lower eyelids, bags, or dark circles under the eyes as we age, smoke continuously, experience stress, or sleep irregularly. People who are unhappy with these images choose eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) as a remedy when the signs of aging become apparent.

    How Is Eyelid Surgery Done?

Eyelid surgery is performed under local anesthesia and takes 1 to 1.5 hours. First, in eyelid surgery, an incision suitable for the natural curve of the upper eyelid is made, and the excess skin on the lid is removed. Then, the excess skin and fat tissue under the eye is removed with the incision made just below the eyelashes on the lower eyelid. In some cases, depending on the patient’s complaint, only upper or lower eyelid surgery is performed, or both can be performed at the same time. You can leave the hospital the same day after the surgery.

3 days following surgery, you should apply ice and eye drops. After eyelid surgery, you can wash your face the next day. If permanent stitches were used during the procedure, they are removed after 5 days. Otherwise, the stitches will fall out on their own. It is normal to have mild bruising and swelling for 7 days after surgery. You can resume your normal activities shortly following surgery. You can, however, return to work after a minimum of three days. Full recovery from eyelid plastic surgery could take up to three weeks.

Is it normal for the eyelids to itch in the first days after surgery?
Itching after eyelid surgery is completely normal and a sign of healing.
When can I wear makeup again after eyelid surgery?
You can wear makeup 10 days after the surgery without any restrictions. However, be careful when removing your makeup.
When can I shower and wash my face?
You can wash your face from the third day after eyelid surgery. However, we advise you not to rub your eyelids.
Will there be scars after eyelid surgery?
This type of plastic surgery always has the possibility of scars. However, the eyelid heals faster than other parts of the body.
